Water Treatment Services in the Hudson Valley, NY

If your water smells like rotten eggs, leaves rust stains on the tub, feels slick, or tastes off, the problem is in the water itself, and no amount of cleaning will fix it. Well and municipal water both vary from house to house. We test first, then recommend the treatment that addresses what is actually in your water.

Start with a test, not a sales pitch

Two houses a mile apart can have completely different water. One has iron and manganese, the next has hardness, the third has sulfur and bacteria. A softener installed on iron-heavy water will foul quickly, and a UV system does nothing for hardness. That is why we test before recommending: hardness, iron, manganese, sulfur, pH, total dissolved solids, nitrates and coliform bacteria, depending on what you are seeing. The result is a treatment plan aimed at your water, with the reasoning written down. If your water is fine as it is, we will tell you that and leave the test results with you.

Softeners, filters and the smell of sulfur

Hard water is the most common complaint, and a correctly sized softener handles it: less scale in the water heater, less soap needed, and no more white film on the shower doors. Iron and manganese need oxidation before filtration or they pass straight through. A rotten-egg sulfur smell usually calls for aeration or chemical injection, not a carbon filter bolted onto the main line. We install and service softeners, sediment and carbon filters, aeration systems and chemical injection, and we set them up so you can maintain them without calling us for a routine filter change.

UV, reverse osmosis and drinking water

Bacteria in well water is more common than most homeowners realize, and a properly sized UV system is a chemical-free way to deal with it, provided the water is clear enough for the light to reach through. That is where pretreatment matters, and why UV is rarely a standalone answer. For drinking water, reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink removes dissolved solids and the salts a softener leaves behind. If the water goes from the tap straight into a glass, RO is the stage people notice most, and it is the easiest one to add.

What we do

Water Treatment services in detail

Water Testing & Analysis

Testing for hardness, iron, manganese, sulfur, pH, dissolved solids, nitrates and coliform bacteria, with results explained in plain language and a plan based on them.

Water Softener Installation & Service

Softener sizing, installation, repair and resin replacement, set up to cut scale in the water heater and plumbing while reducing soap, detergent and fabric softener use.

Filtration & Purification Systems

Whole-house sediment and carbon filtration and multi-stage purification systems to reduce taste, odor, chlorine and particulate, sized to the amount of water your household actually uses each day.

UV Systems

Ultraviolet disinfection sized to the flow of your system, with the pretreatment needed to keep water clear enough for the lamp to work the way it should.

Reverse Osmosis

Under-sink reverse osmosis for drinking and cooking water, reducing dissolved solids and the salts a softener leaves behind, with filters and membranes serviced on schedule.

Aeration

Aeration systems that oxidize dissolved iron, manganese and sulfur so they can be filtered out, which is the usual answer to rotten-egg odor in well water.

Chemical Injection

Chemical injection systems that dose treatment into the water at a controlled rate, for bacteria, sulfur and iron that ordinary filtration cannot handle on its own.

Straight answers

Water Treatment questions

How often should I test my well water?

At least once a year for coliform bacteria, nitrates and the basics, and sooner if anything changes: a new smell, a different taste, staining, or work done on the well. If a neighbor's well goes bad, test yours. Testing costs very little compared to replacing fixtures and appliances damaged by water you could have treated.

Will a softener fix my rotten-egg smell?

No. A softener handles hardness, not sulfur. The rotten-egg smell comes from dissolved hydrogen sulfide gas, which needs aeration or chemical injection to be oxidized and removed. Installing a softener to treat a sulfur problem is a common and expensive mistake. Test first, then treat the actual problem you have.

Do I need whole-house treatment or just a drinking water filter?

If the issue is taste and drinking water only, an under-sink reverse osmosis unit covers it. If the problem shows up in staining, scale, laundry or the water heater, it is a whole-house matter. If bacteria are present, treatment belongs where the water enters the house, not only at one tap.

Do UV systems need maintenance?

Yes, and it is simple but not optional. The UV lamp loses strength over time and needs replacing about once a year, and the quartz sleeve should be cleaned. If the water carries iron, manganese or hardness, pretreatment is needed first, or the sleeve will foul and the lamp will not do its job.

Can I install my own water treatment system?

You can, but sizing is where most do-it-yourself systems go wrong: too small a softener, the wrong filter media, or no pretreatment before UV. The cost of a system that does not work is higher than doing it once. We will test your water and tell you what it needs, whether or not you buy from us.
